Whether you grow plants indoors or are an experienced plant parent, there are a variety of gardening hacks you should learn while gardening that will make your indoor gardening 10 times easier and more time-saving. Indoor gardening may put your talent and creativity to the ultimate test. But the upside is that you get to apply your knowledge and enjoy the results. Isn’t that great?
Gardening is something we enjoy doing to fulfil our passion. However, gardening is time-consuming and requires a lot of money. In this entry, we have talked about 18 gardening hacks. Let’s go through the hacks.
1. Use of mirrors in plants
The use of mirrors in trees? Sounds weird! No, this is going to be a very effective hack. We place the plant in front of the window so that the sunlight falls on the plant properly and the plant can carry out photosynthesis. But it can be seen that when you put the plant next to the window and the sun shines on a certain side of the plant and the other side does not get light, then it can be seen that the leaves of the plant move towards the light and look burnt or fake. The simple solution is to set a mirror behind the tree so that the sunlight reflects off the back of the tree.
If you don’t have a mirror, you can stick foil paper (aluminium paper) with chopsticks and set it in the plant tub.
2. Protection from spider mites
These hacks can protect your houseplants from spider mites. Sometimes spraying our dozens of plants can feel tedious. You wrap your indoor plant soil and tub with polythene to keep the soil out (just cover the tub and tub soil, not the plants), then go to your sink and close the sink drain. Turn on the sink faucet and fill it with water. Then add a few drops of the dish soap you have at home and mix it well with water. Keep the soap scum aside. Now turn your plant upside down and dip only the leaves and stems in water for 1 minute. This will eradicate spider mites and insects from your plants. You can try it once every 7–10 days.
3. Aquarium water
Do you have an aquarium at home that needs to be changed every few days? You throw away the water, but from now on, you don’t throw away the water. You can give the aquarium water to indoor plants, and it is 100% safe and will not harm your plants. Your gallons and gallons of water will be safe.
4. Mulching Ideas
Did your favourite terracotta tub fall out of hand and break? Or did the small pet cat in your house drop it and break it? Don’t throw away the terracotta pot. You hammer it back into small pieces and place the pieces in the trunk of your indoor plant. This results in mulching on the one hand, and on the other hand, your pet cat will not be able to kick up the soil. Giving away the broken parts of terracotta pots will make a great decoration.
5. Use of Vaseline
Does the plant appear to be in the tub? Hanging around the tree? So what do you do now? I can’t give an ant killer because there are small children and pets in the house. Apply homemade Vaseline around the tub of the plant. Ants will not be able to smell the Vaseline and will not harm the plant.
6. Deep water with a bottle
You forget to water the plant while you are busy with work. So if you use these hacks, your plants will not get dehydrated in the water. You take a bottle and make a hole in the mouth of the bottle.
Make the leak small so that the water can come out slowly. Now you fill the bottle with water, put the cap on the bottle, and bury it 3/4 inch deep inside the tub. Now your plants will no longer be dehydrated due to a lack of water.
7. Use of chopsticks
There are some plants inside the house that may be leaning or not standing straight because of too many branches. Now tie your tree to the chopsticks with twine. Your tree is straightened.
Prolonged watering of plants reduces the number of air pockets in the medium. You can fix this by using chopsticks. You create air pockets by inserting the chopsticks into the medium to ensure air circulation in the plant medium.
8. Lemon water
When you spray the leaves to clean them or spray them with insecticides, the water dries up and leaves spots that look unsightly. You take water in a bowl and take an equal amount of lemon juice. Mix water and lemon juice. Then soak the paper towel in lemon water and wipe the leaves well. The spots on the leaves will disappear immediately. Watering especially on dark leaves causes spots. For example: leaves of orchids, rubber plants, pathos, etc.
9. Coffee filter
Plant pots have drainage holes for water to drain out, but when we put soil in the pot, the soil seeps out through the holes at the bottom of the pot and ruins your table. You take a small piece of a coffee filter and place it over the drainage hole and then add soil so that the soil does not fall out through the hole. Coffee filters are able to drain water so you don’t have to worry about water going down the drain.
10. Uses of Aloe Vera
The roots of some plants grow very slowly, resulting in poor plant growth. You use aloe vera to grow plant roots. Mix an aloe vera cutting with water and add aloe vera mixed water to the base of the plant to increase the number of roots.
11. Dry the wet soil of the tub
If you are an online seller or plenty you give someone. While packing, he found the soil of the plant tub wet. How to dry your hands on your head? How to do the packing? Shipping plants with wet soil can damage the plants. No need to stress, I am telling you how to dry.
You take a paper towel and fry it evenly. Now place it under the tub. Paper towels will draw water from the soil through drainage holes. If the paper towel gets wet with water, you can use another paper towel.
If you insert a few tampons into the soil above the tub, the soil in the tub will dry out.
12. Toilet roll seed pot
Are you throwing away the toilet rolls in your house? Why don’t you take advantage of it when you have the opportunity? Now I say you don’t throw away the toilet rolls.
You can use these for seed germination. Seed germination worms are expensive when you can make homemade alternatives which are completely reusable and harmless.
Cut off one end of the toilet rollers and fill it with soil and use it as a pot.

13. Nursery pot inside planter
You should not plant indoor plants directly in decorative planters. Most decorative planters do not have drainage holes so water cannot escape. There is a risk of tree death due to tree rot. You take a nursery pot and plant the plant of your choice in that tub (the nursery pot should be smaller than the decorative planter).
Then place the nursery pot in the decorative planter. Now your tree will not die.
When you water, the water will flow out through the drainage holes in the nursery pot and collect in the decorative planter and you can discard the water.
14. Grow light with timers
If there is not enough light in the house, we use artificial light for plants which is well known as growing light. When you grow lights on your plants you will find yourself having to turn the lights off and on again. When you’re at work, you’re not home, or you forget to turn off the lights, excess light can burn your plants.
You use a timer plugging in and connecting it to the grow light. Now set the specific time and your work is done. The light will turn on and off at certain times.
15. Cinnamon
Annoyed by ants, bugs, snails in the soil of your indoor plants? You can’t chase them even after applying a lot? I am telling you simple hacks. You take cinnamon powder in your kitchen and sprinkle it around your tub and tub soil. Insects and snails can’t even get close to their smell.
16. Propagation Jar
When we do not have a glass jar to plant the cuttings and fill the jar with water and put the cuttings in it, we see that the cuttings sink into the water. You cover the mouth of the jar with polythene. Now take out the leak with the chopsticks you have at home. Now insert your cuttings through the hole. Now the cuttings will no longer float in the water in the jar.
17. Ice solution
Water your indoor plants with rice water. When you wash the rice in the kitchen, do not throw away the water because the water is very beneficial for your plants. Rice washing water contains phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, amino acids and a small amount of fiber. Each of these elements helps in the growth of different parts of the plant. You collect the rice washing water in a glass and freeze the water Pour into an ice cube tray. Then freeze it in the fridge. Give one of the indoor plants in your home. Place the ice on top of the soil. The snow will melt slowly and the plants will slowly absorb its nutrients.
18. Rhizome or bulb propagation
The rhizomes or bulbs of some plants grow better if the roots come first and then they are sown in the ground. You pour water into a glass and add a drop of hydrogen peroxide to it. Now insert three cutting sticks on three sides in your rhizome or bulb and hang the sticks with the glass glass so that your rhizome or bulb is in contact with the water. After a few days, when the roots grow, transplant it into the soil.
